Frequently Asked Questions

The Race

We recommend to use an Enduro Moutainbike as it will give you the most control and comfort on the versatile terrains. However, it is also completely feasible to participate on a Cross Bike or Gravel Bike. Make sure that you mount gears to tackle the climbs and select suitable tires for off-road riding.

You have an early breakfast so that we avoid the afternoon heat. Pack all your stuff, it will be transferred and waiting for you at the next campsite.

The race usually starts at 6:30 or 7am. Depending on the stage and your riding style, you will be between 4-6 hours on the bike.

What you can see during the stages varies. In some stages you will ride through the jungle, others are rough terrain and again in others you might be able to spot some wildlife.

During the race, you find feed zones, providing drinks and snacks every 20-30 km. Depending on the length of the stage, a light lunch will either be provided on the camp or at a feed zone during the race.

After arrival in the camp, you want to have a good shower. In the camps, there will be afternoon activities like sun downers or coffee tasting.

Please let us know, you are interested via onebiketz@gmail.com. We will inform you, as soon as you can register for 2023. The registrations will open after the 2022 Tour de Kili.

Starting Fees

Yes.
During LE TOUR DE KILI, you will cross Kilimanjaro National Park. Entrance fees for national parks in Tanzania are comparably high and make up a key part of the full starting fee for the 5 day race. To provide great quality, we hire qualified staff and pay fair wages. We handpick the routes and the locations you stay at night. Everything in regard to food and accommodation is taken care of. We take our obligations serious and pay local taxes. Le Tour de Kili is a small-scale stage race. While our objective is to make your ride an unforgettable experience, we are not able to benefit from volume discounts the same way other races may do.

The Kili 360° includes some extras: you enjoy magnificent night-overs in national parks and wildlife management areas. Additionally, only the Kili 360° includes your impact contribution:

1. Despite resident discounts, only few, interested native Tanzanians will be able to afford participation. Therefore, with each international paying Kili 360° participant, a starting place is given to a selected native Tanzanian starter. If you want, they are happy to be your cycling buddy. They will help you immerse in local culture, explore the unique landscape and SHARE THE RIDE!
2. We donate bikes to groups of local women. As a result, not only their social status, their work efficiency and income, but also their confidence is fostered. With each international Kili 360° participant, one bike is donated.

East African residents benefit from lower starting fees as park entrances, and accommodation are discounted.

Travel

August is a dry season and therefore a good time to see Kilimanjaro. It is highly unlikely that the mountain does not break through the clouds. Especially early mornings and late evenings withhold high chances. Usually, you will enjoy numerous magnificent views of the highest mountain in Africa on both the Tour de Kili 360° and the Tour de Kili Light.

During the race, you will pass the natural habitat of a number of wild animals, including Zebras, Elephants, different species of Antelopes, Giraffes, Gnus.

Generally they all tend to stay away from human activity but you may be able to spot some.

You can bike to Materuni waterfalls, experience local coffee culture, relax in the hot springs south of Moshi or just mingle in the vibrant town, regularly enjoying a glimpse of Kilimanjaro.
Yes. Just reach out and we can arrange a private pick up from the airport.

As with any sports activity outside your home country, we recommend international participants to take out a suitable international health insurance.

Impact

We make biking in Tanzania visible. Every international Kili 360° starting place finances the donation of one bike to local women and founds one starting place for a local rider. Find out more on http://tourdekili.com/impact.
